Name required. At its heart, Tales of the Arabian Nights a game about telling stories. Perhaps the best way to describe this game is by way of comparison.

A while back, I wrote about how Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective is the choose your own adventure story that you always dreamed of as a kid. Tales of the Arabian Nights is like that, but even more so. You can become Aladdin, Sinbad or even Scheherazade herself. The goal of the game is to literally go off and have adventures. On your turn, you will move across the board and then have an encounter wherever you wind up.

After determining what you have an encounter with, one of the players next to you lets you know what possible range of actions you can take. Instead, you get wildly different options. You could gain story or destiny points, treasure, or one of the many, many different statuses that affect the way you play the game.

Once someone has collected enough story and destiny points a number that each player determines at the beginning of the game, the only restriction being the combination of story and destiny points must add up to 20 and returns to Baghdad, they win the game.

Things do happen pretty randomly in the game, yes. There is almost no strategy involved in order to win. These things will definitely turn some people off.
